No Standalone Data Centers in Wilsonville

Beyond the headline in the Wilsonville Spokesman article about data centers, I want to be absolutely clear: I am opposed to standalone data centers in Wilsonville.

Standalone data centers consume significant local resources and provide few long-term jobs for our community. As your City Councilor, I support attracting and growing businesses that invest in our community, create well-paying local jobs, and contribute to Wilsonville’s long-term economic strength while protecting our natural resources.

The recent City Council work session focused on micro “accessory” data centers — facilities specifically supporting a Wilsonville-based business. My questions, concerns, and comments during that discussion were in response to this specific type of data center being discussed by the Planning Commission.

I encourage residents to follow these discussions and participate in the public process, so everyone has the opportunity to understand the issues, ask questions, and have a voice in an important decision for our community.

My priority is straightforward: protect Wilsonville’s resources, environment and livability, while focusing on economic opportunities with businesses that provide meaningful, permanent employment and lasting value to our community, which is not standalone data centers like those causing so much controversy nationally.
